Vellians: Malory by dire-musaera Vellians: Malory by dire-musaera
Was pretty busy last week so didn't get much art done.

Attempted a somewhat realistic portrait of Mal after seeing ~LydiaKitten's rendition.

I also attempted Jinx but really struggled to make him look realistic. I kept over doing the details to the point where he looked old.

Also ~electromancer made very good points. Despite the stylised look of manga and anime, the characters are still based on Asians. Females also have softer features so they also don't require too much detail to be believable. Mal has both those aspects in her favour.

Maybe I'll give Sesi a go later.

Also, might I add I'd love to see Mal in full on rageface, teeth bared, veins all lit up etc in this style if you fancy a challenge ;)

I'd make some remark about persevering, but it would be hippocritical as all get out with how easily I get discouraged from things *I'm* working on! Also, y'know... there's only so much demanding you draw things I'd like to see I can do before I start feeling rude .

Wow, lots of comments. Lots of favs. Good for you. I really do like this, but I really like her expression. I like think she wearing a dress with long sleeves, and black leggings, very artist-ie but she can still move around. But mostly I think this cause there is such a soft feeling to her.

STOP BEING SO GOOD AT FOLDS DIRE.

I so Jelly.

Yes, you drew one of my favourite 'OC's on the interwebs, and the first thing I notice is the folds in her sweater. What the hell. .

I'm glad you noticed that! While it wasn't hard to do since I was using my own shirt as ref and being black, it doesn't take much work to look convincing... It's still a bit I'm pretty proud of.

Yeah, I've been doing a fair amount of trying to sculpt cloth for Wargaming figures at varying points over recent years, so lots of hamfisted efforts at putting folds in, as well as the odd attempt at concept sketching.

So yeah, noticed.

Still Jelly.

That's pretty damn good for a oc portrait, dire. Simple yet precise on the details. And it's always tempting to do the same for my characters.XD

Yeah it's really easy to make old people look realistic, just add more detail and lines XD That's why in a lot of comics you can't tell if someone is a kid or not because the artist just adds too many lines!

Yeh! I was reading Tom's X-men comics, it was a bunch of story arcs with a new child character named 'hope'

So many artists struggled with drawing a preteen kid. they're all used to drawing boobular, physically daunting women!

This looks good. I know what you mean by over doing the details to the point where he looks old. Maybe make the details softer? or omit some? Realism is hard.

Yeh, I kept putting detail in and then getting rid of it in an attempt to make him look real but also make him look young.

not bad. that's a good point made by electromancer, it'd be interesting to see if that would be true for females of other ethnicities.

I don't really feel she looks realistic. Well not the way your stuff does. Your stuff looks almost photographic! I kept opening up to your gallery while doing this XD
