Description

Saw sketch and Koeb do it and it looked fun so I gave it a shot.
A fun exercise to do, though I don't think I really thought out the importance of each and I don't feel I covered everything, but these are the first few off the top of my head.
I think that counts for something.

I'm not gonna post up the descriptions of each just yet as I think it might be fun for everyone to guess what each one is or it's significance C:

Now that I've had a day to collect my thoughts I'll get into the influences and their significance.

From left to right, top to bottom:

*AdamHughes He was someone I found pretty late on through the covers he did for Wizard magazine. I liked a lot of things about his style such as the realistic proportions and the art nouveau inspired line work. I love the character he invests into what he draws.
He draws a lot of big breasted women and gets commissioned by play boy. I wouldn't call it smut though. The women are glamourous, sure, but they have such vibrant personalities too! Especially his rendition of Catwoman.

*leinilyu It's a pretty silly picture, but it's the most fun one too. But that's comics for you. Anyway, Leinil is someone I first noticed penciling for X-men, he had very fine and beautiful line work, detailed art and some really nice compositions. What I like most is that he is still growing as an artist. He pushes himself doing studies and experiments to be the best artist he can be. In his gallery he's got the concept work he did for the vehicles in firefly as well as some portrait studies and experiments with traditional media. I find it very inspiring to see professionals still working to improves themselves.

Steve Skroce: This guy has done a fair bit of work for marvel and did the story boards for the Matrix. Fantastic layouts.
First picked up his run on a Gambit series for Marvel... I pretty much kept picking it up for Skroce's art. I was attracted to the detail he put into everything; Gambit didn't just wear spandex, there were clips and pockets and all kinds of useful looking stuff on him now.
After that I picked up a four issue arc he wrote and penciled for Wolverine. It was a fantastic self contained story, no space adventure or outrageous Hulk fight. The villains were human, mortal and complex; and so was Wolverine.

These three artists were a big influence to my art but also to my attitude.

The living End: These guys take up two slots as I like them a lot and they represent a lot to me. They're an Australian rock band from Melbourne formed back in 1994. It's hard to place my finger on what it is about them that hits home for me. I guess they write songs like the way I want to draw comics.
I have to say it's not just The Living End but a lot of Oz rock that motivates me. It's so energetic and laid back and funny. Other bands include Bodyjar, Hoodoo Gurus, 28 days and One Dollar Short.
